One thing bloggers often get hung up about is blog promotion, some are unsure how to start promoting their blogs and other wonder what is the best way to start getting visitors to their site.
Blog directories have been around for quite a while, ever since blogging has existed as a way to help visitors find the blogs they are looking for. One of the problems with blog directories is that it is difficult to know which ones are worth submitting to. It can be difficult in knowing if it is worthwhile submitting to one directory over another.
What about the social bookmarking sites, are they worthwhile submitting to. Many of these types of sites have started adding nofollow links so they no longer pass along any Google juice. Others are so popular your link soon gets buried many pages deep and you will hardly get any benefit.
So what are some of the criteria you should look out for? Make sure the site is established, sites that have been around for a while carry more cache with the search engines. Check whether the site will give you any SERP benefits, does the site have a high page rank and does it pass this rank on.
Some sites I have found seem to actually support blogging, they seem to care enough to want to make a valuable contribution to the blogosphere. I am not sure how much of a secret this site is but it is one of the few that I have found that is a mash up of a blog directory, social voting site and RSS directory.
You can add your blog and they will index all of your posts. Others can then vote on your blog bumping it up the list. The site is quite highly ranked and will provide several links back to you which will help you attain better search engine rankings and attract more visitors to your site.
